Photography is not just the family business, it's a passion.

Cosmic Photography is based in Telford, Shropshire, just a short walk from Blists Hill, the victorian town which is part of the Ironbridge World Heritage Site, and just a short drive from the Iron bridge itself. Owned and managed by Paul Spiers, Cosmic Photography is primarily a wedding photography studio which covers the counties of Shropshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Wales; although I have travelled much further afield in my work. We are members of the SWPP (society of wedding and portrait photographers) BPPA (british professional photographers association) and the FSB (federation of small businesses).

When I got married a few years ago we booked the photographer who had recently photographed my Brother-in-laws wedding. Despite being a keen amateur photographer, I knew nothing about wedding photography. I loved taking pictures of my family and pets, as well as trying to capture beautiful sunsets, just like many other amateurs I guess.

Well this guy charged us about £350 and gave us 15 or so pictures in an album. I'd not concerned myself with what he was doing at my brother-in-laws wedding, but at my own wedding it was quite clear that this guy was not very experienced at handling people. Another thing occoured to me too, he was missing the boat when it came to capturing the day. He spent an hour or so staging lots of different family group shots and missed all the magic moments that were taking place behind him. What seemed like a good deal initially turned out to be a bad choice, and this was confirmed when the album arrived.

I am of course not going to mention any names & I don't think he photographs weddings anymore. But this experience pushed me to take a cource in photography at Wolverhampton College, and attend many workshops and seminars with the SWPP (society of wedding and portrait photographers). I am very much a family man, living with my wife, our 4 year old son, & my Daughter who sometimes assists me at local events.

In 2007 I had the honour of winning an international award for a wedding photograph, having faught off competition from the rest of Europe, Australia, Canada and USA. The competition was judged by fellow wedding photographers so it was a great feeling to be commended by my peers.
